The teaching
Pinchas killed two people. God's response? A covenant of peace.
In Bamidbar, after an act of pure force, Hashem grants Pinchas something unexpected — shalom. And the priesthood. Not despite the fire. Through it. The warrior becomes a kohen. Clenched fists becoming open hands.
In tai chi, we call this sung — releasing tension without losing structure. Try it now. Stand rooted. Squeeze your fists until your forearms shake. Then slowly open the fingers. Keep the frame alive. That's sung.
Hashem didn't extinguish Pinchas's fire. He gave it a vessel.
Strength that knows how to soften is strength that endures.
